Mr. Modou Turo Darboe continues road rehabilitation in Fajikunda South

The Vision Development Foundation (VDF), in collaboration with the Kanifing Municipal Council, over the weekend embarked on a massive road rehabilitation exercise at the road linking Fajikunda South football field.

The exercise was part of the continuation of the VDF’s effort at ensuring potholes are filled with gravels for easy access by passersby and vehicles.

Speaking at the exercise, the GALGA secretary general, Mustapha Njie, hailed the Chief Executive Officer of the VDF, through the founder, Modou Turo Darboe, for his effort in complementing government’s effort by trying to provide a lot of resources in rehabilitating most of the roads of the no-go areas and environmental degradation.

He said the KMC are very grateful to Modou Turo Darboe for his philanthropic gesture in providing gravels free of charge to rehabilitate roads within the communities.

He added that Mr Darboe had been embarking on many developmental and environmental activities to ensure people have access to good roads in the communities.

According to Mr Njie, it was the mandate of the KMC to embark on such community development initiatives to ensure a free living environment but thanks to the intervention of the Chief Executive Officer of the VDF, most of the roads in Fajikunda, Tabokoto and Wellingara Mixed Farming Centre among other are now enjoying better road.

He commended Mr Darboe for providing truck and gravels free of charge in support of community initiatives and environmental protection.

The Fajikunda road rehabilitation exercise, conducted over the weekend, was purely funded by the VDF through CEO Turo Darboe, he said.

“The rehabilitation of this road is very important in the sense that many women use the road to the market, as well as taxi drivers among others but the maintenance is the responsibility of the KMC,” Mr Njie said.

“We need to support and encourage the Chief Executive Officer of Vision Development Foundation, Mr Turo Darboe, for spending a lot of money in our communities’ development initiatives,” he stated.

He encouraged the youth, who are the cream of the society, to participate fully in national development.

The Majority Leader and NAM for Serrekunda East, Hon Fabakary Tombong Jatta, described the exercise as vey timely, saying Mr Darboe had been very helpful to the entire community of the country.

He noted that road rehabilitation should be everybody’s concern, as the government alone could not do it, adding that the participation of every Gambian in national development was key.

He commended Mr Darboe for providing gravels, truck and fuel free of charge, adding that “his effort indicates his love for the country.”

He said Turo Darboe’s philanthropic gesture spreads all over the country, ranging from giving out ambulance for societal use to funding women to start business.

Hon Jatta challenged Gambian business tycoons to emulate Turo Darboe’s philanthropic gesture, as road rehabilitation is a necessity which contributes to national development.

The councillor for Fajikunda ward, Mbamba Gassama, also joined the previous speakers in commending Turo Darboe for is effort at complementing government’s effort and urged other Gambians to emulate him.
