COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT

Our Community empowerment initiative is a means of supporting local communities broaden their social networks and meet day-to-day challenges in their localities. We believe that an empowered community can influence the social and economic aspects of a country to seek their rights. These rights include the right to dignity; the right to economic independence; and social and democratic rights. We encourage communities to work together on projects aimed at uplifting their status. We are convinced that when working with others for a collective cause, individuals acquire a sense of worthiness. The basic aim and objective of community organisation are to abolish the differences among individuals, develop a spirit of common interest and sacrifice and also participate collectively in community programs. Hence, VDF provides assistance for community garden projects, self-help enterprises and community businesses as well as provide tools and machinery such as milling machines to reduce manual labour and drudgery in local communities. Youth empowerment programs are aimed at creating healthier and higher qualities of life for underprivileged or at-risk youth. The five competencies of a healthy youth are: (1) positive sense of self, (2) self- control, (3) decision-making skills, (4) a moral system of belief, and (5) pro-social connectedness.
